Engage, Connect, and Learn at AVID DigitalXP™ – Without Leaving the House!

Don’t miss your chance to refresh and reconnect virtually with your AVID Family this summer at AVID DigitalXP. This best-in-class experience includes three consecutive days of learning, an inspirational General Session, a multitude of engaging Communities of Practice, Site Team time, and national networking opportunities.

Did you know that AVID DigitalXP is completely aligned with the content offered at our in-person Summer Institute experiences? This alignment—without the need to be on location—provides a convenient, affordable, and efficient way for you to train more educators as you gear up for a successful new year. Together, we will explore what’s possible—for you and for the students you serve—when you tap into your purpose and passion for doing this important work.

Still not sure what to expect from AVID Summer Professional Learning? AVID educators agree:

  1. You’ll be inspired. There’s nothing quite like the energy and excitement of an AVID General Session! You’ll hear from AVID leaders and alumni with incredible stories of educator and student agency and will leave feeling recharged and motivated.

  2. You’ll network with educators like you. When educators participate in AVID Summer Professional Learning, many describe the experience as “finding their people” or “coming home to family.” You’ll be surrounded by passionate, engaged educators and district leaders who want to bring out the best in their students and communities.

  3. You’ll find resources for all students. Whether you are a preK–12 educator, district leader, site leader, counselor, or instructional coach, AVID provides solutions for any classroom context: in-person, blended, and virtual.

  4. You’ll have fun! Of course, AVID events aren’t AVID events without the music, the dancing, the laughter, and the joy that our community brings to this work. Even online, AVID knows how to bring people together to celebrate and have a great time!

Don’t miss this virtual three-day professional learning opportunity—register now.

AVID Student Badges Are Now Available for Grades 9–11

badges-fix

AVID Elective students in grades 9–11 can now earn an AVID Student digital badge for building skills in key areas of the AVID College and Career Readiness Framework—the rigorous academic preparedness, student agency, and opportunity knowledge they achieve through their AVID class.

In the Framework Fridays section of the Weeks at a Glance, access lesson plans designed to help students define the ‘why’ behind digital badging and show evidence of their learning. Teachers will award badges to students in grades 9–11 through AVID Digital Badging (Tip Sheet). For the steps of this process, please view the informational video.

AVID seniors will continue to opt in and enter their personal email for AVID Graduate badge delivery when they submit their Senior Data—there is no change to this process. Information about the process for seniors can be viewed on Day 151 of the Weeks at a Glance.

Instructional Spotlight – Celebrating Teachers

This week of May 2–6, we celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week. We celebrate teachers because when we look at our own lives, we see the imprint of the teachers who cared enough to become part of our individual stories, and in doing so, helped us make the impossible possible. Teachers activate possibility for students and illuminate opportunities they never dreamed were possible. Teachers prepare students for futures that are difficult to imagine, and through that preparation they become part of their students’ stories. We celebrate teachers in May because choosing to teach offers the opportunity to become part of someone else’s story. And when that choice is multiplied by the number of students a teacher serves across the span of their career, the impact of one teacher is incredible.

What if the impact doesn’t stop there? At AVID, we believe the most powerful thing teachers can do is to recognize the impact of educators on a campus working together. We call this collective educator agency—when educators on a campus take intentional actions based on shared beliefs and trust that, together, they can increase opportunity and measurable success for all students and each other.

Why does this matter? During the best of times, teaching is challenging. It may feel incredibly lonely and overwhelming. Cultivating agency, developing opportunity knowledge, building students’ skills—that is a lot for one person to accomplish in 180 days. Embracing collective educator agency means recognizing that education can feel lonely, and that you are not alone. Collective educator agency is recognizing the teachers on your campus who are doing this work with you, developing instructional routines that work across grade levels and content areas, realizing the power of collaboration across a campus, and illuminating possibilities for one another.

This May, we invite you look to the right and look to the left at the teachers making a difference on your campus. And then look in the mirror. You are a teacher. The work you do matters. Thank you for the vital role you play in so many individual stories.
