What we know from over 45 years of implementation is that the AVID Elective produces proven results when it is implemented as designed. Strong implementation takes a multi-year commitment to ensure the core components of AVID are in place and fully leveraged over time.
The Secondary Implementation Tool helps schools successfully implement the AVID Elective as the foundation of a successful AVID system, and then build a schoolwide impact to benefit more students on a campus.
The Secondary Implementation Tool is organized into two sections, each with their own continuums: Elective Certification and Schoolwide Recognition. To support the continuous improvement of the school’s AVID system, the AVID Site Team is responsible for:
- Using the completed Secondary Implementation Tool as a self-assessment and planning resource to inform site goals and identify those aligned with the indicators.
- Collecting authentic evidence to document progress.
- Revisiting the tool regularly to sustain growth and for ongoing coaching.
- Submitting data to AVID Center in the spring to determine the overall certification rating and level of schoolwide recognition based on the level of implementation in each part of the tool.
